A birth chart is an astronomy problem before it is an astrology one: where, precisely, were the Sun, Moon and planets at your minute of birth, seen from your birthplace? Most free chart sites cut corners here — coarse ephemerides, sloppy timezone handling for historical dates, an ayanāṁśa applied inconsistently. The errors are small enough to hide and large enough to move a planet across a house or nakshatra boundary — and everything read from that chart inherits the mistake.
Acharya's engine computes true sidereal positions from a research-grade astronomical ephemeris — the standard class professional software builds on — using the Lahiri ayanāṁśa, and it has been validated placement-by-placement against the reference software professional Jyotishis trust, across worked examples published in the classical literature. What is a janam kundali?
Your kundali (birth chart) is a map of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born — the ascendant (lagna) rising on the eastern horizon, and the nine grahas placed in the twelve houses. Every Vedic reading — dashas, yogas, compatibility, muhurta — is computed from this one chart, which is why getting it exactly right matters more than anything built on top of it.
Why do you need my birth time?
The lagna changes roughly every two hours, and with it every house of the chart. Without a birth time there is no ascendant — only Moon-sign generalities, which is the sun-sign-column astrology we don't do. Check a birth certificate or the family's record; even a few minutes matters near a sign boundary.
How accurate is this chart?

What do the abbreviations in the chart mean?
The diamond is the North-Indian style: houses stay fixed, signs rotate. The number in each house is the sign (1 = Aries through 12 = Pisces). Su Mo Ma Me Ju Ve Sa Ra Ke are the nine grahas — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu. ℞ marks a retrograde planet, ☉ one combust (too close to the Sun).
What's a mahadasha?
The Vimshottari dasha system divides life into planetary chapters — each graha rules a period of 6 to 20 years, subdivided into antardashas. Your running mahadasha and antardasha are shown with your chart: they are the timing layer of Jyotisha, the difference between what the chart promises and when it delivers.
What don't I get here?
This free chart shows the raw sky, placed correctly. The sixteen divisional charts, shadbala strengths, ashtakavarga, KP, yogas — and above all the reading: what it means for your work, marriage, and timing — is what your Acharya does. The chart is free; the craft is the product.
